Health and Safety
Health and safety is our number one priority for all participants.
This program may be a student’s first time leaving the country or traveling by themselves, so ensuring their physical and mental well-being is extremely important to us. By actively taking these steps, students will be able to enjoy their experience in a safe and supportive environment and parents can be reassured
that their children are in a safe environment.
Health Insurance
We have teamed with Amigos de las Américas (AMIGOS) to provide full health insurance coverage for our students. Through our partnership with AMIGOS, participants will receive full health insurance coverage during their program stay. They will also receive pre-trip health and safety training. While on site, participants will have access to 24/7 on-call emergency assistance, manned by three full-time health and safety staff members at AMIGO's national office. Furthermore, with AMIGOS' trusted relationships with local community members and pre-screened local hospitals, participants will have access to medical assistance at all times.
Communication
Parents and students are encouraged to communicate with each other during their time abroad. Parents will have access to a 24/7 emergency phone number that will connect them to onsite program staff, as well as the program director, should they need to reach someone during the trip. We will also assist students with steps in setting up their phone internationally, or in the alternative, provide a cell phone so that students and families are able to reach each other throughout the trip.
24 Hour Student Supervision
Participants will be accompanied by LEAD.Latinoamérica staff through the entire duration of their trip - from the moment students arrive at the destination city's airport until the moment they embark on their return flight home. More specifically, this will include airport pick up in the host country, throughout all program-related on-site transportation, scheduled "leisure time,” and return to the airport.
Immunizations
Each country suggests and/or requires certain immunizations prior to departure. We will provide parents with a list of suggested immunizations and recommend speaking with the child’s doctor prior to their trip to ensure he or she is fully prepared healthwise to travel.
Behind every young child who believes in himself is a parent who believed first.
